That’s it from us tonight! Do join us on Saturday when India take on Canada in their final Group A fixture. Good night!

Summary: Rohit Sharma and Co progress to the Super 8 with their third win in a row in New York. Arshdeep Singh ran through the US order as he returned with figures of 4/9 to help India restricts the co-hosts to 110/8. It was tricky chase with Saurabh Netravalkar wreaking havoc with his opening spell snagging the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Pant got off to a good start before Ali Khan nabbed his wicket. Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube navigated the pitch calmly and got their team over the line with an unbeaten 67-run stand. India now move to Florida to face Canada on Saturday for their final Group A fixture.

India Captain Rohit Sharma: We knew it was going to be a tough task scoring those many runs on the board. Credit to us at the end, we held our nerves. Got that partnership as well. Yes, we lost some wickets up front. But, you know, credit to Surya and Dube to show that maturity and take the game till the end.

[On playing against Mumbai-born players in the US team] You know, a lot of the lot of these guys, we played cricket together. I'm very happy to see them, their progress in cricket as well. You know, last year we saw them play in MLC as well. They're going from strength to strength and I can hope nothing but the best for them. They are hard working guys and they're making their mark here.

[On the performances of bowlers in New York] We knew that bowlers will have to take the lead. We know run scoring is difficult on this pitch. All the bowlers did the job. Particularly Arshdeep. The way he started off was magnificent.

[On Dube bowling today] I think that is something we want. We want options with us and as and when we feel like we should be able to use them. And today I thought we could use them. The pitch had something in it but yeah, again, all I want is to have options moving forward.

[On qualifying for Super 8 stage] It is a big relief. You know, playing cricket here wasn't easy. It could have been anyone's game. All the three games that we played. You have to really stick to the end and take the game as deep as possible. Luckily for us, we managed to pull through in all three games. We can take a lot of confidence from victory like this.

[On Suryakumar’s knock] He showed he's got a different game as well. And that is what you expect from experienced players to come out and bat differently if the situation demands. And that is what Surya did. That partnership with Dube was very important for us.

USA Captain Aaron Jones: I would say [we were] ten to 15 runs short on the wicket. We know that obviously, if you get probably maybe 100 and 125, it will be definitely a tough total. The boys were pretty disciplined today. It was really pleasing for me to bring the game so close. I'm really proud of the bowling unit.

[On playing in front of a big crowd in New York] This is something that we've been talking about over the last couple of years, wanting more fans for USA Cricket. So now is the time. We are really enjoying it.

[On final match against Ireland] We're just gonna revamp right now and then we are traveling later and then we are gonna have a few meetings and we are gonna come hard against Ireland for sure.

[On not using spin bowling today] I think to be honest with you, the wicket was a little tricky. And obviously we know what Dube could do batting against spin. So I thought today seamers were really actually the best option on wicket.

[On Monak Patel’s injury] Yeah, most likely he'll be good for the next game. He just has a slight niggle. I don't think it's anything too serious. So most likely he'll be back for the next game for sure.

Arshdeep Singh is the Player of the Match for his figures of 4/9: Very, very happy with the performance. In the last two games, I gave away a little more runs, so wasn't very happy with that. But, yes, the team always showed belief in me and kept backing me, so I had to deliver for them. The wicket is very intuitive to fast bowlers and it's helping us get some seam movements. So the plan was simple. Just pitch it in the wickets and let the ball do the talking. And it was moving well. That's the talk in the dressing room as well [pitching it on the right length]. Don't give easy balls to score on because our batsmen are also facing the difficulties to score runs. So the plan was to hit the hard length and see what the wicket helps. In conditions like this, you can use the wicket more. And after the first game, Jasprit also told me, like, you can back your execution as well when you bowl good yorkers, you can try that as well to surprise the batters and use the wicket as well. [On his morning warm up routine] When you are playing international wicket, you need to have some routines and the way you take care of your body and how you warm up, it all counts before the game starts. So just trying to keep it simple and follow the same routine every day. [On the Indian bowling unit’s performance in New York] All the bowlers who have got the chance to bowl here have done extremely well and looking forward to do the same in the next leg as well.

India 11/3 (18.2 overs): INDIA WIN! India beat USA by seven wickets with 10 balls to spare to secure their place in the Super 8 stage!

Suryakumar Yadav brings up his half-century before Dube hits the winning runs.

India 102/3 (18 overs): Netravalkar comes back to finish his spell. He gives away only five runs but cannot break the partnership. SKY one run away from a well-crafted half-century! India need four runs from 12 balls.

India 102/3 (17 overs): SKY takes off! He takes on Van Schalkywk and plunders 14 runs to release the pressure. Plays a delightful lofted drive which sails over the rope for a six. The next ball he moves to the off and scoops it behind for a four. India need nine runs off 18 balls.

India 87/3 (16 overs): Before Jasdeep Singh begins his fourth over, umpire Paul Reiffel has a chat with USA captain Aaron Jones. India have been awarded five penalty runs! Ebony Rainford-Brent on the comms informs us that it was because USA took more than 60 seconds before overs three times. They are 14 minutes behind the clock as we speak. Not ideal for the Americans. India now need to score a run a ball. India need 24 runs in 24 balls.

India 76/3 (15 overs): A couple of much-needed boundaries for India from SKY and Dube. SKY first flicks one into the vacant deep midwicket region for a boundary off Khan. In the next over, Dube finally reads Anderson’s delivery to send the ball sailing over deep midwicket into the crowd for his first six of the match. India need 35 runs off 30 balls

India 60/3 (13 overs): DROPPED! SKY looked to play a lofted drive off Schalkwyk but ends up slicing it high in the air. Netravalkar runs back from short third and settles under the ball but ends up letting it slip through his fingers! Will Netravalkar and USA come to rue that drop?

India 55/3 (12 overs): Dube is struggling out there. Plays out four dot balls off Jasdeep before edging one past keeper Gous for a boundary. The ball bounced just in front of Gous before evading him. Anderson follows it up with another economical bowler as he gives away just two runs. The pressure gets to SKY as he looks to sweep Anderson but top edges it. Fortunately for him, it just looped up over his head and just behind the stumps.

India 47/3 (10 overs): Shadley van Schalkwyk and Corey Anderson come into the attack and bowl a couple of clinical overs. Just two overs from Van Schalkwyk’s over and Anderson follows it up with a six-run over. New batter Shivam Dube has not looked particularly confident playing and missing a couple of balls. At the halfway mark, India are 47/3 and need 64 runs in 60 balls.

India 39/3 (7.3 overs): WICKET! Pant is doubled over as Ali Khan gets one to stay low and crash into the stumps! Bowling around the wicket, Khan angled the ball in towards Pant and it died in the pitch flying past Pant’s bottom edge.

India 33/2 (6 overs): Suryakumar Yadav doing Suryakumar Yadav things! With Netravalkar bowling around the wicket, Yadav nonchalantly flicks it over his shoulder for a six over fine leg. Pant also joins in the fun the next over as he flicks a Jasdeep Singh delivery off his hips over deep backward square leg. Nitish Kumar misjudged the flight of the ball as it sailed over his head to land plumb on the boundary cushion.

India 16/2 (4 overs): Three dismal outings for Kohli at the tournament so far. Would India look to bring is Yashasvi Jaiswal in and drop Kohli to his favoured No 3 position? Rahul Dravid and his coaching staff will have a lot to ponder over before the Super 8 stage.

Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav patiently play out a couple of overs from Netravalkar and Jasdeep Singh.

India 10/2 (2.2 overs): WICKET! Saurabh Netravalkar is spitting fire! A scrambled seam delivery which stops of Rohit Sharma as he looks to play it on the on side. The ball comes off the leading edge and Harmeet Singh takes a good running catch down the ground. What a start from USA!

India 1/1 (0.2 over): WICKET! Kohli is out first ball! Pitched it outside off and Kohli dangled his bat at it. The ball takes a big edge and Gous takes a simple catch behind the stumps!

India vs USA: Out walk Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The latter hasn’t hit the ground running at the tournament so far. A good opportunity for him to get his tournament started.

Nitish Kumar: I think we're still a little bit disappointed from where we were at the end there. I thought we fell about 20 short but it is a difficult wicket and the past games of 110 has been pretty tough to chase. It's always good [Atmosphere]. Nice playing against a big crowd. The wicket wasn't the easiest but we're gonna go out there and give it a good go. It's always exciting. I know we don't get these crowds all the time but it's always nice to play.

USA 110/8 (20 overs): Siraj runs out Jasdeep Singh with the final ball of the innings as India restrict the USA to 110/8. India will be very happy with their bowling performance. Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers picking up four wickets for just nine runs. 17 off his 24 ball went for no runs!

USA 103/7 (19 overs): Bumrah ends his spell with a good over. Just three runs off it. A rare off-day for Bumrah considering his high standard as he ends with figures of 0/24.

USA 98/7 (17.3 overs): WICKET! Arshdeep gets his fourth of the day! Harmeet looked to pull a short delivery but can only edge it to Pant who takes a good catch. USA collapsing now.

USA 96/6 (17 overs): WICKET! Pandya strikes once again to get rid of Anderson. The burly left-hander gave himself room on the leg side but Pandya smartly followed him. Anderson swings at it but the ball takes the leading edge and flies high into the New York sky! Pant sets off and takes a good catch. A wicket maiden over Pandya.

USA 95/5 (16 overs): Oh hello! This is not a sight you see that often. Jasprit Bumrah leaks 14 runs off his third over. Anderson digs out a yorker bowled just outside off past the vacant slip cordon for a four. Harmeet Singh then somehow manages to top-edge Bumrah over fine leg for a big six. Bumrah can’t help but smile. Singh ends the over with a lofted cover drive towards the longer side of the ground. Patel pulls it back but Singh and Anderson run three.

USA 81/5 (15 overs): WICKET! What a stunning catch from Siraj at deep midwicket to get rid of Nitish Kumar! Rohit tossed the ball to Arshdeep to get a wicket and the man delivers, thanks in large part to Siraj. Nitish shifted to the leg side to give himself a bit of room to pull one towards the midwicket boundary. Siraj backpedals before jumping and grabbing the ball out of thin air. Nitish Kumar departs for a 23-ball 27.

USA 80/4 (14 overs): A couple of big overs for USA and much-needed ones. First, Nitish Kumar scores 12 runs off Pandya. Stats off with a couple of runs before unleashing a beautiful six straight down the ground. Follows it up a ball later with a delicious straight drive past Pandya.

Corey Anderson hits Patel for a huge six over cow corner as USA score nine runs off Patel’s third over.

Steven Taylor is bowled by Axar Patel

USA 59/4 (12 overs): WICKET! A ball after being hit down the ground for a six, Patel gets his revenge against Taylor. The American looked to cut it but Patel dragged his length just a bit. Taylor ends up inside edging the ball to his backfoot and onto the leg stump causing the bail to fall down. Taylor not happy with his dismissal at all.

USA 48/3 (11 overs): Axar Patel into the attack now and gives away just five singles. Siraj is brought back into the attack and gives away six runs. It could have been eight but for some superb fielding from Suryakumar Yadav down the ground.

USA 37/3 (9 overs): Shivam Dube comes into the attack. Bangs in a bit short on the fifth stump line. Nitish Kumar pokes at it and the ball flies through the vacant slip cordon. Taylor, who has been slow in scoring so far, takes off. Dube bowls another short ball but Taylor read it quickly and pulled it towards deep midwicket where he catches an unsuspecting Nassau County cop square on the shoulder. That will hurt!

USA 25/3 (7.2 overs): WICKET! Pandya strikes and Jones has to go. Banged in short and Jones went to pull it but was cramped for room. Siraj takes an easy catch at fine leg. A big wicket for India.

USA 25/2 (7 overs): Pandya comes into the attack to bowl the final over of the powerplay. Another economical over from India with just the solitary run conceded. The US end the powerplay at 18/2. India will be very happy with that.

Bumrah bowls a wild wide bouncer which sails over a diving Rishabh Pant and goes for four. The US almost lose another wicket as Taylor sets off for a risky single but slips and falls. Fortunately for him, Virat Kohli chose to throw the ball at the non-striker’s end. Bumrah ends his second over with a peach of a delivery which flies past Taylor’s outside edge.

USA 17/2 (5 overs): Jones has hit some big sixes on the leg side this tournament and so it is only natural that he hits the first one of this match on his favoured side. Pitched in short from Siraj and Jones swivels and clears the fine leg boundary. Jasprit Bumrah is brought into the attack to huge cheers. Jones goes for a big cut but misses it. Bumrah responds by nearly slicing Jones in two with a superb in-swinger which just missed the inside edge. Jones has had enough and is content with putting bat to ball on the final delivery.

USA 8/2 (3 overs): Mohammed Siraj bowls the second over and gives away just four runs. Arshdeep follows it up by giving away just one run in the third over. Taylor and Jones not looking to attack and content with surviving these early swinging deliveries.

USA 3/2 (1 over): WICKET! He struck with his first ball and he strikes with the last ball of the over! A bit shorter this time from Arshdeep and the extra bounce sees Andries Gous slice the ball high up in the air. Hardik Pandya runs in from mid off and Rohit Sharma runs in from mid on with Pandya calling for the catch loudly before pouching it safely. Superb start for India.

USA 0/1 (0.1 overs): WICKET! Arshdeep Singh strikes with his first ball! Pitched just in line of off stump and swung back in to beat Jahangir’s bat and rap him on his knee. Arshdeep celebrappeals and Nogajski raises the finger. Jahangir does not even bother reviewing the decision.

India vs USA: Arshdeep Singh has the new ball for India and he will be bowling to Shayan Jahangir, who is making his debut in the tournament. Giving him company at the other end is Steven Taylor. Here we go!

India vs USA: India start as favourites but the odds won’t be that great given the US’s shock win over Pakistan. Which also perhaps explains why India have opted not to make any changes to their winning competition.

Match referee Ranjan Madugalle leads out the two on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Sam Nogajski as well as TV umpire Kumar Dharmasena. The two teams follow suit for the national anthems. Not too long now.

India vs USA: The co-hosts are without captain Monak Patel who is out with a niggle. Aaron Jones captains the side today. Shadley van Schalkwyk and Shayan Jahangir replace Patel and Nosthush Kenjige.

India have named an unchanged side.

Toss: Rohit Sharma wins the toss and India will bowl first!

Rohit Sharma: Pitch has played better in the last two games. You have to understand what you need to do and assess conditions quickly. You got to constantly get better in two games and continuing doing the good things that we have. Pitch will challenge in different ways

Pitch report: A glorious day for cricket with no rain clouds in sight says former England cricketer Ebony Rainford-Brent. Steve Smith says that it has been a tricky pitch last week in New York. The batters are going to hit down the ground. Bowlers are going to hit the hard length and back of the length. Smith says whoever wins the toss should bowl first.

Hello and welcome to Scroll’s coverage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup!

It’s a top of the table clash in New York!

The two unbeaten teams in Group A — India and co-hosts USA — face off at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in the final match to be held in New York. The winner of tonight’s showdown will book their spot in the Super 8.

The pitch in New York has been under scrutiny for the low-scoring matches it has served up. Expect another low-scoring match.

Not many expected the United States to be in contention to qualify for the Super 8 in their debut appearance. However, they pulled off a stunning upset against Pakistan and are a win away from reaching the next round.

That won’t be an easy task against a dominant Indian side led. Jasprit Bumrah has been in sensational form so far in New York picking up five wickets at a sensational average of 4 and an economy of 2.85 runs.
